Synopsis :
Brilliant surgeon Dr. Arthur Burdon (Iván Petrovich) saves sickly beauty Margaret (Alice Terry) by performing a daring operation. Afterward, the two begin to fall in love, until the mysterious and deranged Oliver Haddo (Paul Wegener) seemingly sweeps Margaret off her feet. But this is no ordinary affair -- in fact, Haddo is a sorcerer who put a spell on the young woman to lure her into his hideout, where he plans to remove her heart and blood as part of a devious experiment to create artificial life.
A strange gem restored for the first time in 4K .
The Magician was considered lost for many years. Critic Carlos Clarens wrote that it was "perhaps the most elusive of lost films." However, since the time Clarens wrote this, various prints of the film have surfaced. Some have screened at independent movie festivals from 1993 onwards, and the film has also been shown on Turner Classic Movies. It remained commercially unavailable on blu-ray until today. In 2022, thanks to the acquisition of a new 16 mm black and white print from 1926, a new 4K scan was possible. The reels have been digitized using a 4K scanner and a huge work of stabilization, calibration and restoration was made. Be part of cinema history and help us save silent classics. Own the first 4K restoration of Rex Ingram’s masterpiece with a new classical soundtrack.
All blu-rays are sold out. It won’t be available elsewhere, it was a Kickstarter exclusive. Get your copy before it’s gone.
